| Leerresultaten | The overall goal of this postgraduate program is to experience the joy of engineering in a real-life set-up by means of an extensive engineering experience, i.e. a challenging engineering project in an international context, in which innovation, interdisciplinarity, teamwork, sustainable user-centered development and a holistic approach are the keywords.
This means that students will:
- start up a multidisciplinary and innovative extensive engineering project in an international context, in enterprise or together with a network of enterprises. This involves defining the mission statement, project vision and desired outcomes, drawing up a cooperation contract, making a project planning, etc.
- show the necessary initiative, creativity and critical-reflective attitude in order to reach the defined technological milestones and results;
- learn to work in real-life teams of engineers and other people to attain the desired results, learn how to coach and develop each other within a team and learn how to set up good communication, internally between all involved people, and externally to the outside world;
- understand the international nature of nowadays engineering and learn to deal with team members (and other involved people) from different cultures;
- understand the financial aspects that come in play in real-life engineering experiences and learn to approach an engineering project also from an economical point of view;
- understand the legal and social framework of real-life engineering experiences and learn to approach an engineering project also from a legal, political, ethical, ecological... point of view;
- understand the importance of the project's customer in order for the result to be adapted and learn how to approach an engineering project from a user point of view, including user-friendliness, aesthetics, price/quality,...while obtaining a sustainable result.
- understand the difference between a holistic approach and a reductionist point of view and be able to approach an engineering project from a holistic, "whole systems" point of view.
